Right wingers whine a lot about persecuting Christians, but their over-the-top criticism of the Pope is making some hypocrite sandwiches.
Right Wing Called Pope Francis Their Friend Until Climate Change Encyclical
June 23, 2015

By now, most of us know there's no loyalty among conservative thieves and liars. Conservative media can make you a darling one day and rip you to shreds the next, which is what they're trying to do to Pope Francis right now.

After all, an encyclical such as the one Pope Frank published last week may not be ignored by Catholics under any circumstances. It carries the same weight as Moses descending with the tablets to obedient Catholics, who are also Christians, by the way.

That means that it is a transformational document which will bring change whether conservatives -- largely fueled by right wing oil interests -- like it or not.

It goes without saying that they do not like it one bit, but it's almost comical to see the very same media figures who went on and on about a "war on Christianity" now waging their own in the name of their billionaires.

Media Matters gathered up some recent examples.

Here's Stuart Varney on Fox News, whinging about contraception.

Fox's Stuart Varney: Obama Has "Declared A War On Christianity" With Policies On Women's Health. In an interview on Fox News' Hannity co-host Dana Perino, Fox Business host Stuart Varney claimed that the Obama administration's decision to require health insurance companies to cover female contraception was an attempt to "dominate the Church." He said that by enforcing the contraception policy, Obama "has declared a war on Christianity":

Here's Stuart Varney last week, freaking out about the Pope and climate change, warning that the Pope is in "alliance" with President Obama to "reshape the world" by "redistributing the wealth."

Like that, they turn with teeth bared.

Rush Limbaugh, boldly standing against the LGBT community on behalf of persecuted Catholics:

Rush Limbaugh Claimed LGBT Rights Movement Waging "War On Christianity,"Responsible For Closing Churches And "Bully[ing]" Catholics. On the May 12 edition of his show, Limbaugh blamed a drop in the number of Americans who identify as Christian since President Obama took office on the fact that some churches perform "homosexual marriages" and hire both LGBT and female ministers. Limbaugh later asked: "How is it possible that less than one million gay activists are able to bully and steamroll an entire country on the subject of marriage?" On the April 29, 2015 edition of his show, Limbaugh complained that the Obama administration might force churches to perform gay marriages by threatening to remove their tax-exempt status. He also declared that LGBT activists are carrying out "a war on organized religion because organized religion stands in the way" of gay marriage:

Rush Limbaugh on June 17th, railing against that "Marxist" Pope who wants to leave everyone living "equally in misery."

Media Matters cites similar reversals from Breitbart News and John Hinderaker at PowerLine too, as well as a couple of doozys from that lunatic Michael Savage. They just toss their echoes into the same chamber, calling haters from all corners of the country to turn on their former ally.

What makes the Pope's encyclical transformational for many and antithetical to the Fox talkers and conservative thought leaders in the world is that he links consumerism and the markets to climate change, calling upon believers to reconsider their worship of the Almighty Dollar.

“The Earth, our home,” he writes in the new encyclical, “is beginning to look more and more like an immense pile of filth.” We are failing in our responsibility to care for God’s creation. The reason, he says, is that idolatry of the market and consumerism has supplanted any sense of the common good. And public action is stalled because “too many special interests, and economic interests easily end up trumping the common good and manipulating information so that their own plans will not be affected.”

He continues: “Is it realistic to hope that those who are obsessed with maximizing profits will stop to reflect on the environmental damage which they will leave behind for future generations? Where profits alone count, there can be no thinking about the rhythms of nature.”

The pope condemns the current global economy “where priority tends to be given to speculation and the pursuit of financial gain, which fail to take the context into account, let alone the effects on human dignity and the natural environment. Here we see how environmental deterioration and human and ethical degradation are closely linked.”

Conservative yappers just can't stand it when someone calls them for what they are.
