I'll just say this: Banishing the Confederate flag to the dustbin of history, where it belongs, isn't going to solve the problem that Republicans, and many Americans generally, simply refuse to acknowledge, let alone address in any meaningful way – the culture of (violent) racism firmly rooted in America's history, manifesting itself each and every day all across the country, be it in Ferguson or Charleston or wherever. But, whatever the motives (and Republicans are clearly hoping to benefit politically from this), it's an undeniable sign of progress, and cause for a cheer or two.
