Gov. Chris Christie released a video that describes his Sicilian mother, who passed away in 1994 from cancer to announce to the world that he's running for the presidency in 2016. In certain ways, we are alike, family wise. His father was Irish and his mom was Sicilian. Both my parents were Sicilian, but my mom passed away in 2004 from cancer after battling diabetes most of her life. I'm sure her pasta sauce was magnificent, how could it be not, and his mother loved him and would defend him as much as mine did.

Both our moms were Democrats too, but that's where our similarities end. After watching his new promotional video a couple of times, I have to say that I'm getting madder by the minute. I'm sure his political team poll tested his story about his mom and that's why they opened with this, but I think it's very cheap to use her in this way to promote his political ambitions, while trying to soften his bristled exterior and the Bridgegate scandal.

Christie; "I know if my mom were still alive, she would say to me, 'I taught you that in a trusting relationship, you don't hold anything back. And if you're going to run for president of the United States and you're going to ask these people for their vote, that is the single most trusting thing they can do as a citizen, is to give you their support. So you better tell them exactly what you're thinking and exactly what you're feeling.' And when you ask about my moral compass -- that's it, that's it."

Using his mother's love, who is no longer with us to try and defend his assholiness to others is crass and swarmy and shows what kind of man he truly is. The backing music sounds like it was ripped off from the great W.G. Snuffy Walden via a Friday Night Light's episode which tries to elicit an emotional response from the viewers - hoping to imbue it with more of his phony sentimentality.

I do imagine the beltway media will swoon over it with Ron Fournier leading the charge, but as an opening salvo in his campaign, it's as tasteless as his town hall manor.
