While discussing President Obama's “tepid” support for the renewal of the Patriot Act and the bill that just passed the House, which does put some limits on the NSA's data collection, and is currently stalled in the Senate, Fox's Brit Hume decided to lob this stink-bomb at President Obama.

HUME: It’s hard for this president to put on his big boy pants and deal with national security.

TANDEN: No! It's not. What is that? The issue here is a fight between Rand Paul and Republicans. Do you think the President lobbying the Senate is going to make Rand Paul listen to people. I thought that was Mitch McConnell's job, who hasn't been able to get his conference to agree on an issue, because that's why we're facing this, right?

HUME: There will be an issue on the House passed bill. I don't think there's much doubt about that. McConnell was trying to give the President all the authority that he had before, not just some of it.

TANDEN: But he had a House problem because too many Republicans voted against McConnell.

HUME: I get that. That does not mean Neera that the President has been on this issue and many others an effective advocate with Congress. He simply hasn't been, and when it comes to these issues, which is, as Julie points out, a little out of phase with the way he campaigned, he’s not very good at it.

TANDEN: It's so easy to blame him for the fact that Mitch McConnell cannot get this bill passed.

HUME: I'm not blaming him for that.

TANDEN: Okay. I thought you were. Sorry.

They just can't stop themselves from calling him "boy" at every opportunity.
