Megyn Kelly is dying to interview Hillary Clinton. Not for her own sake, mind you, but because Kelly’s brand of respect and listening – and hard pressing – would be good for Clinton.
Kelly discussed the matter with Judge Andrew Napolitano as part of a lengthy discussion about Clinton’s formal campaign announcement yesterday.
“If she sits down with Bill O’Reilly and then again with you, I will publicly hug and kiss her,” Napolitano said.
“Bill O’Reilly? What?” Kelly joked. Then Kelly continued in all seriousness.
KELLY:, She should sit with me and I’ll tell you why, with all due respect to Bill. Because Bill – and I love him – does macro – as he has, always says and I’ll go micro. And she needs to be asked the specific questions. You need to be able to go ten layers deep with her. Because that’s the only way you get answers. If you stay macro, she can handle that.
Napolitano said Kelly has “the legal knowledge that Bill doesn’t have” as well as the “ability to dig deep.” However, Napolitano said, “Bill has the ability to terrify.” He meant that as an asset.
Kelly insisted, “I don’t want to terrify Hillary. I actually want to sit down and have a fair interview with her.”
Oh, did she mean like the “fair interview” she had with ObamaCare architect Ezekiel Emanuel who could barely get a word out before being interrupted? Or was Kelly thinking of the segments where she yelled at Rep. Al Green (a Democrat, of course) over the Congressional Black Caucus’ “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” protest - and then treated a later guest, who had a different opinion, with a whole lot more respect?
Despite her history of attacking Democratic guests, Kelly maintained she’s the gal for a fair and balanced interview with Hillary Clinton.
KELLY: I think the problem with her is, if she comes over to Fox News, is she likely to sit down with somebody like me, who will really press her? I will give her the chance to be heard fully. But will she sit with somebody like me who would press her and I’d press her deep?
…But I would listen to her. She would have the chance to explain. She would have the floor. There would be follow up questions but I would be respectful of her. And it is to her benefit to sit with somebody like me. This isn’t about me getting an interview. It doesn’t have to be me. It could be O’Reilly. It could be anybody who will actually extract meaningful information from her, as opposed to just letting her go into the talking points.
Kelly would listen to Clinton and give her the chance to explain? Who could forget Kelly’s meltdown and accusations of “You don’t know what you’re talking about!” when Kelly’s own colleague, Democrat Kirsten Powers, tried to discuss the phony New Black Panther Party controversy?
As for Clinton, I’d say the chances are slim and none that she’ll go on either The O’Reilly Factor or The Kelly File.
