Louie Gohmert might only be rivaled by Rep. Steve King in the ferocity of his loathing for immigrants. Might. He's one of the most shrill on all the terrible things that immigrants do to this country, and how ruined the United States will be if we let those brown people in.
Goober sat down to talk to Joyce Kaufman, Allen West's Chief of Staff for about a week before she had to leave because she had such a hater reputation, and what he spewed was quite remarkable.
“It’s usually the liberals that care more about race, they care more about gender and all kinds of, sexual habits,” he continued. “We don’t care about that stuff. Are you going to do the job, are you going to do what’s right, are you going to be honest? Those are the things that we’re more concerned about. In fact, we [conservatives] are coming closer to the dream of Martin Luther King, Jr. because we care more about the content of the character than we do the color of anybody’s skin.”
Do I really need to enumerate all the ways this is so wrong, or can you list them from memory in the comments? I especially loved the part about liberals obsessing on sexual habits. Liberals aren't the ones passing "license-to-discriminate" bills in the states. Liberals aren't the ones spewing hate or making big fat grandiose statements about how we won't serve gay people.
Liberals didn't pitch a fit over children coming to the U.S. to flee oppression in Central American countries, or intentionally block bipartisan immigration reform legislation.
But conservatives are coming closer to MLK's dream. Sure, Goober.
