As we already discussed here, Sen. Bernie Sanders subjected himself to an interview with Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace this weekend (why I do not know) and actually did a pretty good job on there defending progressive values to an audience that's probably as likely to be moved by any of his arguments as he'd have arguing with a brick wall, but you never know. Maybe he got through to a few of them.
Of course Fox wasn't simply going to allow Sanders on the air without some follow up and their regulars or hosts attacking him, so we were treated to this nonsense a few hours after he appeared with Wallace.
After showing a portion of Sen. Bernie Sanders interview, where he said this about when and if he may announce whether he's going to throw his hat into the ring for the 2016 presidential primary:
SANDERS: You know, when you've got these super PACs and billionaires able to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on the candidates of their choice, making sure have you the money to run a credible campaign is very, very important.
America's News Headquarters host Arthel Neville brought on right-wing radio host Lars Larson and Fox's Alan Colmes to discuss Sanders' appearance. After Colmes talked about the fact that he would be good for the debate if he were to get in because he'd be highlighting issues that matter to everyday working Americans, Larson pounced:
LARSON: Oh, I'll tell you something. Bernie Sanders running, God's gift to talk radio. Terrible for America because he's for... Alan knows this. I'd love to see him run. Running to the left of Hillary and then suggesting we should drive all the money out of politics, as Hillary aims for $2.5 billion from her multimillionaire friends. And for him to criticize the ultra-rich in America, which includes Sec. Clinton. And then for Bernie to talk about how driving Americans toward European Socialism, because it's worked out so well there, will make America a better place, or have a Medicare for all as he has suggested.
Yeah, ask anybody who's a senior citizen in America whether they can even find a doctor willing to take Medicare and then suggest Medicare for all. It's going to be a hoot if he gets in.
COLMES: You know the American public is well ahead of where the polls are, where the politicians are. They'd love to see Medicare for all. They'd love to see a single payer system. Many of the people who were against Obamacare wanted a more progressive plan.
I think Larson was getting Medicare and Medicaid mixed up, because I don't know of any seniors complaining about Medicare or wanting the government to get rid of their health care coverage.
He wasn't done attacking Sanders yet and went on to sing the praises of Citizens United and how wonderful it is that money now equals free speech. If Larson believes his arguments here are going to move the vast majority of Americans and not just the wingnuts who listen to his radio show, I say bring it on. He just figured out how to alienate the better part of the seniors who vote for Republicans in one fell swoop with his attack on Medicare.
Please proceed Larson. Let's hope all of the GOP presidential candidates follow your lead.
