Well, Rush must really be in hot water with his advertisers to cross the boundaries of the free speech lines he himself drew and threaten to sue the DCCC for defamation.
In a fundraising email, the DCCC quoted Limbaugh's remarks about campus rape, where he said, "How many of you guys, in your own experience with women, have learned that ‘no’ means ‘yes’ if you know how to spot it?"
There's no context needed for that remark. It's pretty clear what Rushbo meant, no matter what he cloaked it in as disclaimer.
Limbaugh said that. Not the DCCC. He meant it as plainly as he said it, too. So the DCCC did what they always do. They wrote up a fundraising email about it and sent it to everyone on their list. They also started an online petition which has garnered well over 300,000 signatures asking people to tell advertisers they object to Limbaugh's war on women.
It's pretty ballsy of someone like Rushbo to pretend he's been defamed when he straight up cheered Florida State quarterback for shouting this:
Deadspin first reported on Tuesday that Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston had been seen by students standing on a table in the student union, and yelling, “f*ck her right in the p*ssy.”
Of course, Rush's handler Brian Glicklich is right in the thick of this, because that's why he's getting the $900 per hour fee to rehabilitate Limbaugh. Advertisers don't especially care for being associated with rape apologism, hate speech, and outright violent speech against women.
It's a little bit ironic that Limbaugh, the great champion of free speech, is now trying to pretend he didn't say something that he said in order to be able to freely speak some more and get paid for it.
He can say whatever he wants, but as a consumer, I don't have to associate myself with the brands that hand him the microphone. Those who choose to reject hate will have my business. Those who don't, won't. It's my choice to make, whether Rush likes it or not.
I'm sure the DCCC is not quaking in their boots. This is lawfare, something the right wing hates whenever we do it, while they engage in it quite regularly. And if a lawsuit doesn't make any sense, then they'll just smear you by using their vast echo chamber to hammer otherwise ordinary people.
Which is it, Rushbo? Free speech for all, or just you right wingers?
