Schools in New York State, among other higher population states, are experiencing budget shortfalls due to increased numbers of (often undocumented) immigrants. Fox News interviewed Merryl H. Tisch, the chancellor of the state Board of Regents, who sounded the alarm that sports programs and other extracurricular activities will likely be cut from public schools.

The object of this segment was to blame that lawless President Obama for being the one in charge when the chickens come home to roost as a result of the Republican War on Drugs that began under Ronald Reagan. Refugees from Central America, Fox News ignores, were the result of excessive violence in those countries stricken with conflict over drug trafficking. Republicans insinuate this problem was caused by the president because he can't "secure the border." What they fail to mention is that these kids did not sneak into this country because of insufficient security, they sought asylum here.

The second point Fox News and Tisch wanted to elucidate was the need for increased federal funding to schools faced with overcrowding from those largely Spanish-speaking children who have infiltrated our public school system. If anyone recalls the 2012 debate where Rick Perry wanted to abolish this department, GOP-TV (aka Fox News) now supports this entity?

Tisch is also forgetting the budgetary problems caused by ideas that Republicans favor, like cutting the corporate tax rate. Tax cuts for wealthy corporations leave the coffers for funding schools depleted. The problem with the budgets is that they are calculated in April or May for the next year and these immigrants just show up on the first day of school and the state isn't prepared for them.

The Federal Government is supposed to pick up the slack, but now that we have a Republican House and Senate, we will see these funds cut to ribbons. Republicans will balance their budget on the backs of poor people, as usual.
