Stephen Colbert, still “riding high from the GOP's triumph in last week's midterm election” told his audience there's only one way to describe this victory... a mandate.
COLBERT: Yes, it was absolutely a mandate, thanks to an historic of just 37 percent of eligible voters, the lowest since 1942. And remember, that was the greatest generation. Back then on election day, the young people were too busy answering the call of duty to vote, just like young people today.
And folks, now that the GOP has their largest majority in 85 years thanks for the lowest voter turnout in 72 years, they have the obligation to enact the agenda of the angriest man in the smallest county in Iowa.
They just need to do one thing. […]
Yes, it is time for Republicans to govern. Before they were just paid extras on C-SPAN.
Which led to Colbert's Word segment, where he told Republicans they'd better heed the warnings of their dear leader, El-Rushbo who immediately went on the air after the elections and told them it was not their job to govern, but to stop Obama instead. And the brain trust over at Bill Kristol's rag, The National Review, who warned of the perils of cooperating with the Democrats in their recent article, The Governing Trap.
