Oops, we have upset our friend and ally in the Middle East, the State of Israel, by offending Netanyahu yet again. Never fear, Fox News is here to castigate the 'feckless' president once more. Mayor 9/11, Rudy Giuliani, told Greta Van Susteren, that his mentor Ronald Reagan said that the only real Mideast ally:
(they are) one of America's few good friends in the world... One of those friends is the State of Israel."
Recent events caused the Administration to criticize Israel for policies that are geared more towards political cowardice and less towards tough peace negotiations with the Palestinians. An Israeli source reports:
As the ongoing crisis in U.S.-relations continues, a report by The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg cites a senior U.S. official as saying that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is “a chickenshit prime minister,” who only cares about his political survival.
This (chickenshit/coward) statement, undiplomatic as it may be, is part and parcel of the personality and actions of Netanyahu. He's a very right wing leader whose popularity is waning because he not only decided to end Operation Protective Edge with the Palestinians, but he refused any efforts of a peace settlement orchestrated largely by Secretary of State, John Kerry. Netanyahu, in an effort to salvage his brand before an election that could make him Prime Minister for the fourth time, has been a very stubborn obstacle in America's efforts at a two state solution.
After boasting of his Reagan bona fides, Guiliani laid out the missteps of this administration whose tone is only reflecting that of the person at the top, that smug President Obama. Guiliani laid into the Obama Administration.
The president, number one, should apologize (as you say) . Number two, he should get his staff together. I had to do this several times when I was the mayor when somebody did something wrong and make it clear that these are not the comments that he wants, that he's not going to accept this. Bibi Netanyahu, who I've known since, uh, 1985, I consider him a very good friend."
Economy Minister Naftali Bennett responded harshly to the interview, saying that "the prime minister is not a private person, but the leader of the Jewish state and the Jewish world. Such severe curse words against the Israeli prime minister are harmful to millions of Israeli citizens and Jews worldwide." Bennett said Israel is a "vanguard of the free world against the Islamist terrorism by ISIS, Hezbollah, Hamas and Iran." Bennett called on the U.S. administration to renounce the remarks, adding that "instead of attacking Israel and force it into terms of suicide, it should strengthen it." But this is the view of the Likudniks, a party unwilling to cede a smidgen of territory to the besieged Palestinian State and is as Hawkish as John McCain.
Unfortunately, after the tantrums thrown by Netanyahu cheerleaders Andrea (Mitchell) Greenspan and Wolf Blitzer, John Kerry will apologize for something that may or may not have been said. Hot Air's Noah Rothman claims the White House "won't even investigate" who made the caustic remark. Maybe it's high time someone told Bibi the ugly truth that America is tired of giving billions of dollars to a nation hell bent on Palestinian Apartheid.
Of course, Rudy will automatically jump on the side of anyone whose policies are antithetical to President Obama, after all, Guiliani was beaten out for the GOP nomination in 2008 by the man who picked Sarah Palin. Rudy is a bitter man who occasionally pops up on Fox to remind everyone who was mayor when our nation suffered its worst terrorist attack in history. His relocation of Central Communications to the WTC aside, he thinks he behaved heroically in a tough time for New York and America. His current standing as a Fox flunky shows otherwise.
