Sorry Sen. Paul, but you're going to have to come up with a better excuse than this one for why you turned tail and ran when you were obviously still in the middle of finishing a meal as soon as you heard the word DREAMer from your unwelcome guest Erika Andiola's mouth.
Here's the excuse Paul gave Fox's Greta Van Susteren for why he had to leave the table as soon as the DREAMers showed up: Rand Paul: I Didn't Run From Dreamer, I Was About To Do An Interview:
GRETA VAN SUSTEREN: There's been a video that's gone somewhat viral among the media at least in which you're sitting, having long with Congressman King and suddenly some young person comes up to him and says the person's a DREAMer and engages in sort of a controversial conversation with Congressman King about being a DREAMer. You shake the hand and then you're seen getting up after you had a bite of your hamburger and then getting your drink though as if you're trying to get away. What's going on? What's the explanation for this video?
SEN. RAND PAUL: Now you know my life, my life on the campaign trail. But about five minutes before that or two minutes before that the video doesn't show that another reporter came up and said will you do an interview. And I said I need to take a couple more bites and we'll do an interview, and then I was told we had to leave and I had to do the interview.
So actually I stood about ten feet from those people who were doing sort of a Kamikaze interview and I stood ten feet from them and did another interview. And you know me, I've always been open to discussing immigration. I'm very open about discussing that I think there should be some kind of immigration reform.
But I think you can't do it without first securing the border and that's the problem with the president doing this unlawfully, the president doing this on his own act, I will make this choice because people will not act and saying he's using a pen and a phone. I'm very much opposed to the president making policy instead of saying Congress makes the laws, he gets to sign them.
I don't know whether Paul told anyone else he'd do an interview or not, but it's pretty clear from the video that he wasn't planning on going anywhere until his aides told him to get the hell away from Andiola and her cohort. If he is actually telling the truth about saying he'd do another interview, the likely scenario is that he told them he'd get with them when he finished eating and then decided he was finished eating as soon as his aides told him it's time to move away from the table right now. Whatever happened, Greta sure as hell wasn't going to push him on whether anyone should take his story at face value or not.
