Newsmax bookers need some training to make sure they're matching their message and their messenger, because I'm sure JD Hayworth was not prepared for his interview with Texas Children's Hospital's Dr. Peter Horetz.

JD Hayworth is a right-wing extremist radio personality who has transitioned to the new Newsmax online television network. For those unfamiliar with Hayworth, he is one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's biggest fans, he's a birther, and a hateful man. When he ran against Senator John McCain in the 2010 primary, he was definitely one of the Tea Party's Great White Hopes. Hayworth also had smarmy ties into the Abramoff scandal.

Hayworth's purpose in having Dr. Horetz on as a guest was to ooze a little slime on immigrant children coming across the border, but he wasn't expecting the opposite to happen.

Hayworth: "Tell us about the nature of the threat of these diseases coming into the United States."

See how that works? They're not children anymore, they're just diseases. Classic Hayworth right there.

Horetz: "Well, I actually think the chances of disease coming into the United States from Central America is fairly remote -- "

Hayworth, interrupting: Really?

Winding up for the home run, now:

Horetz: "The problem is not so much immigration, the problem is -- you know, we call them neglected tropical diseases. It's a bit of a misnomer. They're diseases of poverty.

And the astonishing fact is that we have 20 million Americans mostly living in the South who mostly live in what we call extreme poverty at one-half the U.S. poverty level and now almost 2 million families living on less than two dollars a day.

And so, for instance, we can drive into the 5th Ward of Houston, Texas, not very far away from very opulent communities and see environmental degradation, poor quality housing, no window screens, discarded tires along the side of the road collecting water. It looks like the global health movie you would show to a first-year medical student.

So, that's where the focus needs to be. Texas and the Gulf Coast are at the confluence of poverty --"

And that's where Hayworth finally cut him off. After he humiliated Governor Goodhair and his merry band of teabaggers who want to paint the immigrant children as purveyors of disease and filth.

Oh, what a sight to behold. At least, it was great until Hayworth shut him down. Just a delicious and truthful moment in a wasteland of right wing television.
