I feel terrible for the friends and family of this Texas pastor, but this tragedy is exactly why the argument about how guns protect people is such nonsense.

HCSO:

Frazier noticed the entry door to the garage was open so grabbed his gun and went outside to investigate. That is when he saw a man in his garage and the two began to fight.

Frazier’s wife saw the struggle and called 911, according to investigators.

During the struggle, deputies said the intruder, later identified as 30-year-old Daniel Durham, managed to grab Frazier’s gun and shoot him with it.

Neighbors said they thought the gunshots were fireworks.

Let's pretend for a minute that Frazier didn't have a gun. Instead of grabbing his gun, he might have called 911 and then gotten himself and his wife to a safe place until they arrived. Maybe he would have used his cell phone to stay on the line with 911 so they could catch the suspect and take him into custody without incident.

Instead, a man is dead after facing the barrel of his own gun. That's just wrong, and it highlights the false security sold with guns.

It doesn't have to be like this. Really.
