Sen. Robert Menendez is asking the Justice Department to pursue evidence obtained by U.S. investigators that the Cuban government concocted an elaborate plot to smear him with allegations that he cavorted with underage prostitutes, according to people familiar with the discussions.
According to a former U.S. official with firsthand knowledge of government intelligence, the CIA had obtained credible evidence, including Internet protocol addresses, linking Cuban agents to the prostitution claims and to efforts to plant the story in U.S. and Latin American media.
The alleged Cuba connection was laid out in an intelligence report provided last year to U.S. government officials and sent by secure cable to the FBI’s counterintelligence division, according to the former official and a second person with close ties to Menendez who had been briefed on the matter.

"A secret plot by Cuban intelligence? Pretty convenient," Carlson said in an email to The Huffington Post. "But is there any evidence at all to suggest that's actually true? We've got a reporter on it right now, but so far I haven't seen any."
--The Daily Caller’s Nov. 1, 2012 report, based on the accounts of two unnamed women who claimed that Menendez paid them for sex in the Dominican Republic, was hyped aggressively by The Drudge Report but largely ignored by media outlets that couldn't substantiate the allegations. The salacious story further unraveled in March 2013 after three women said they were paid to lie about Menendez, and it was revealed that four news outlets had investigated the allegations before the Daily Caller ran the story, but found no credible evidence to merit publication.
Tucker is in serious trouble now and for good reason. This news also clarifies to my why Tucker supported Lara Logan's false Benghazi stories so vociferously.
Fox News host Tucker Carlson said on Sunday that he wasn't convinced that CBS News correspondent Lara Logan's alleged witness to the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi had been lying because "sometimes the best stories have flaky sources."
"Of course, the audience agrees completely," Carlson said. "Are we sure the Logan story was false?"
