Sen. John McCain really put his foot in his mouth while talking to Howard Kurtz on Fox News last Sunday by calling out Comedy Central's Jon Stewart. Like most networks, John McCain has been a constant guest on TDS over the years and I actually was surprised by the answer McCain gave Kurtz when he was asked if Stewart was fair to Republicans.
KURTZ: You've been on "The Daily Show." Is Jon Stewart fair to Republicans?
MCCAIN: No. But he, you know, doesn't matter really. He's a comedian and he's --
Hey Howard, why is a comedian supposed to be fair to anyone that they are mocking? Do you know what comedians even do? There isn't a bullsh*t "fair and balanced' code between comedians and the politicians they make fun of.
Anyway, McCain continued:
MCCAIN: Oh, yes. Listen, he's a very entertaining and funny guy. But you know, when he says things -- which he's entitled to, after all. He's a late night comic -- that are absolutely wrong, he gets away with it, you know, it is what it is.
Unfortunately for McCain, Jon Stewart heard his remarks and offered up a challenge to defend his comedic honor on Comedy Central:
No, he's right. Those late night comics do get away with mistake after mistake. Some with catastrophic consequence and yet somehow the viewers continue to elect; to watch.
But I'd be willing to bet McCain that if we went wrongo-e-wrongo, you'd come out on bottom.
So whaddaya say Senator? Care to put your money where your forced smile through jaws clenching anger is?My record of absolute wrongness against your record of absolute wrongness for a good old fashioned "Wrong off!"
Come on, I'll tell you what. You come on the program with your Jon Stewart was absolutely wrong file and I'll see if I can perhaps dig up one or two things you've been mistaken about. Don't unload the truck yet boys, wait till he gets here.
So how bout it McCain, you and me wrong to wrong, no holds barred? And the loser has to sit through 24 straight hours watching the person he's best known for unleashing on the world.
I doubt John McCain will take this challenge, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. I won't even get into how many times McCain has been wrong on foreign policy issues that have cost hundreds of thousands of lives since we all know them so well, but he the Senator loses again because Stewart unleashed the very funny Colbert on the world while John McCain unleashed the "Queen of Quitters," Sarah Palin.
That's a knockout in the first five seconds of the fight.
