Despite admonishing viewers, "We just have to say, 'No more'" to fear mongering and talking points, Beck engaged in exactly that on his radio show Monday. In fact, he sounded a lot like his old, fear mongering, hate mongering, conspiracy-mongering self as he joined his right-wing pals in accusing President Obama of manufacturing claims about right-wing efforts to impeach him. And then somehow tied that to conservatives losing the “immigration battle.”

Beck announced:

I’m gravely concerned because I don’t think we’re going to win this immigration battle, I really don’t. I think it’s going to go the way it always does. Because they’re going to win the PR battle. And the president is going to change the subject and he’s going to make it about impeachment.

Although Beck never made a connection between immigration and impeachment, he suggested one as he continued:

Do you think anybody in Washington, in the GOP, is serious about impeachment? Do you think one person? Have you spoken to one person? Not one. I talk to a lot of the guys who should be the leaders of impeachment if there was going to be a leader of impeachment. Have you spoken to anyone that have given you an indication they’re for impeachment?

Neither of his radio co-hosts had. However, none said whom they had spoken with to confirm that view. For example, as recently as Sunday, House Majority Whip Steve Scalise specifically left impeachment of Obama on the table over immigration. Raw Story noted that Rep. Louis Gohmert has been calling for impeachment since at least 2013. Senator Ted Cruz has accused the administration of a “pattern of lawlessness” that “should concern every citizen, regardless of party or ideology.” Furthermore, a parade of Fox News pundits have called for impeachment, including Sarah Palin.

But Beck – a savvy guy if ever there was one – overlooked all that to accuse President Obama of running some kind of impeachment scam. And – what a coincidence! – this happens to be the same accusation being leveled at Obama on Fox News and by other right wingers.

“So who wants it?” Beck asked rhetorically. “The president does. Because then he’ll be able to say, ‘I demand justice.’”

Beck agreed with his co-host that the whole thing amounts to “birther issue, part 2.” He added, “The birther thing is over, the black thing is over, so now he needs …to be able to call for justice.”

Taking a gratuitous racial dig at the president? Nope, Beck has not changed a bit.
