Wingnut Rep. "Terror Babies" Louie Gohmert did his best to make light of the heated exchange he had with Attorney General Eric Holder over the House holding him in contempt during this Wednesday's Washington Journal on C-SPAN.
MCARDLE: How's your relationship with Eric Holder these days?
GOHMERT: Well, we are BFFs. You know, we're best friends forever. I think that's what buddy means. You know, he called me his buddy. That's a term of endearment, even though he said it in terms of “you don't want to go there buddy.” So, but still, the term buddy being a term of endearment. So we're just like this. […]
MCARDLE: Congressmen Gohmert, have you had any contact with the Attorney General since that exchange?
GOHMERT: No I haven't, and let me just say, I knew there was some reason that I knew that contempt didn't seem to be a big deal to him, and sure enough, ABC News did an interview with him a year before, about fourteen months before that exchange in which he told ABC News, it's on video, it's in print, he told them that look, since I don't have any respect for the people that voted for contempt, then it's really, it doesn't mean anything to me. So he... it was not a big deal to him, literally before it was a big deal to him. So, anyway, I don't know if he was lying earlier or lying when he was talking to me, but one of those times he was not being honest.
I guess Gohmert had to go back and look up the article where he'd read that Holder blew off the contempt charges after the hearing last month was over. If Gohmert had mentioned it at the time, maybe Holder would have explained the change of heart over the last year.
It is a big deal that the Republicans have decided to turn congressional hearings into nothing more than a clown show for their partisan political witch hunts. I don't blame Holder for saying he doesn't have any respect for the lot of them.
