Fox News on Thursday used a deceptively edited clip of President Barack Obama to claim that he had been the "ringleader" of the "biggest jailbreak in history" by condoning the release of criminal immigrants so that they could vote for Democrats.
Last month, a report from the conservative Center for Immigration Studies (CIS) found that ICE had "released 68,000 aliens with criminal convictions."
President Barack Obama this week called for comprehensive immigration reform that would free "law enforcement agencies to do their job." Although the president never addressed the CIS report, Fox News has been accused of deceptively editing his remarks to make it appear that he condoned the release of convicted criminals.
While teasing a segment about the CIS report on Thursday, Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade suggested that the president had "set free" thousands of convicted immigrants.
"It's being called the biggest jailbreak in history," host Brian Kilmeade said. "And the president is the ringleader. Why thousands of convicted criminals are being set free by the Obama administration."
As the segment began, Fox News again played the clip of Obama's White House remarks and suggested it was connected to the CIS report.
"What's behind this?" Kilmeade asked senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano.
"He has exercised his discretion to keep them free, out of jail during the period that they're waiting to be deported," Napolitano explained. "The president has got a hang-up with immigration laws, and I don't know what his motivation is unless he wants these people to vote for the Democrats."
In conclusion, Kilmeade opined that "if any of these guys go out and commit any of these crimes again while their waiting for the deportation hearing, that goes right back to the Oval Office."
