Because I'm a liberal, I really don't care what other adults do to themselves. (As long as they don't do it in the barn and scare the horses, as my mom used to say.) But it toasts my coconuts that the same conservative assholes who are trying to throw everyone and their mother into their for-profit jails have an entirely different standard for themselves. Hey Chad, you think poor people don't have stress?

Chad Alexander, a prominent lobbyist and former chairman of the Oklahoma Republican Party, was arrested on drug complaints after a traffic stop in Oklahoma City in which police officers said they found cocaine and pills. He was booked in the Oklahoma County jail after his arrest Tuesday evening and was released after posting $5,000 bail, officials said Thursday.

A police report indicates Alexander was arrested on complaints of possession of 3.35 grams of cocaine and possession of a controlled substance without a prescription, which consisted of nine pills. His 2014 Mercedes-Benz was searched after he was pulled over about 7:20 p.m. at NW 36 and Western Ave., because his vehicle was “straddling lane lines,” according to a court affidavit. The affidavit stated the controlled substance was the painkiller oxycodone. There was no mention in the police report or the court affidavit of any passengers.

Alexander, 40, of Choctaw, released a statement saying he is taking a leave of absence to seek treatment at an Argyle, Texas, drug rehabilitation center after demanding responsibilities led him to substance abuse.

“I regret to inform you that I will be taking a leave of absence from my personal and professional obligations for approximately the next 28 days,” he said in the statement. “I am leaving immediately for inpatient care at the Sante Center for Healing.

“Over the course of the last several months, due to the pressure of meeting the demands of my clients at the state Legislature, 15 campaigns, and my duties as a single father, I became personally overwhelmed and started down a path of dependency on chemical substances in an effort to maintain my workload.

“My dependency on chemical substances unfortunately culminated in my arrest on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, in Oklahoma County.”

He said he was ashamed of his actions, apologized and said he would work to change.“What began only a couple months ago has quickly escalated to a point that has caused me to carefully re-evaluate myself and I am committed to making healthy and permanent changes to prevent anything like this from ever happening again,” he said.

Lobbying work
Alexander and a second person organized Oklahomans for a Conservative Future, which has spent $650,000 to boost the U.S. Senate campaign of state Rep. T.W. Shannon. The group is organized in a way that allows it to keep the names of its donors anonymous.
