Comcast's bid to acquire Time Warner Cable, if allowed to occur, would be the 10th largest corporate merger in American history. The company is seeking approval from the FCC and the Department of Justice, who are charged with making sure the giant corporations aren't breaking any anti-trust laws. But they are already falling into the realm of anti-trust...as in "We the American people DO NOT TRUST this large corporation, whose main goal is to increase its own profit margin and not to have our best interests in mind."
The media is focused on answering the question of what may happen to a user's service when they should be focused on what will happen to our rights and our democracy. The First Amendment to the United States Constitution prohibits the government from making any law abridging the freedom of speech or infringing on the freedom of the press. If only our forefathers had included a dictum against market or business endeavors that have the secondary outcome of infringing on these areas. Instead, we are letting the loopholes of the 'free-market' decide just how much of our constitutional rights we get to maintain.
