A Michigan man was arrested over the weekend after he was accused of repeatedly punched his mother in the face because she had not put up a Christmas tree ornament with his name on it.
According to WOOD, the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office responded on Saturday morning around 2 a.m. after 911 dispatchers received a call and heard a woman screaming, "You are hurting me!”
Deputies found that 33-year-old Lewis Atwood had been drinking and decorating a Christmas tree with his girlfriend, mother and brother when he noticed that there was no ornament with his name on the tree -- but the mother had put up an ornament with the brother's name.
A police report obtained by The Smoking Gun said that Atwood "punched his 58-year-old mother in the face four or five times."
The report alleged that the mother suffered a bloody nose, swollen eye and swollen lip. The suspect also had injuries to his knuckles and hands.
Atwood was charged with domestic violence and domestic violence -– third offense. He had also been charged for domestic violence in 2002 and 2006.
The mother told WOOD that her son would not have attacked her if he had not been drinking.
