Art Blakey (aka- Abdullah Ibn Buhaina; just plain Bu to his friends) helped revolutionized jazz drumming. He founded the Jazz Messengers-- through whose ranks dozens of incredible young musicians passed (from Wayne Shorter, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Mangione, and Keith Jarrett to both Branford and Wynton Marsalis and Terence Branchard)-- in 1954. Blakey died in 1990 and his legacy includes over 100 albums, immeasurable influence on the sound of bebop and mainstream jazz, and nearly every award a musician can achieve, from Grammys to induction into the Jazz Hall of Fame. He recorded 3 albums called A Night in Tunisia starting in 1957. This version of "Blues March" comes from the 1979 iteration.
