In every profession, if you have a healthy age-mix of people in the workplace, there comes the incident when a younger colleague is suddenly faced with the ugly revelation that, yes, you can be fired any time and for no damned good reason.

That the authors of whatever the local disaster was will probably remain safe in their offices, while some underling will find their possessions packed in two boxes and security waiting to escort them out.
