Not many people know who Tim Buckley was, or maybe they just that he was Jeff Buckley's dad. Tim was around my age and we met when we were teenagers. He died a few years later, still in his 20s. I ran into him and Jackson Browne and Steve Noonan at a Velvet Underground show on St. Marks Place and invited the three of them back to my college for a few weeks. I was floored by the uniqueness of Tim's voice and his powerful lyrics and I booked him to open a show for The Doors. No one quite knew how to categorize his music-- jazz, folk, psychedelic rock? He made a couple of extraordinary albums before he died but his eponymous debut is still my favorite. "Song For Jainie," is one of those enchanting songs that never gets old.
