Steve Gilliard was fearless. He was brilliant. He was eloquent.
Steve's prose cut like a knife and he could wield it to slice away all the crap and spin and propaganda that surrounded the news or he could slice at your gut, and make you hurt for your lazy thinking. His was never an easy read, but you always left feeling smarter.
There's been a lot of things written in the blogosphere in the last week surrounding Steve's death, and there are some very harsh feelings still, but this thread is not about that. Out of respect for the many of us who are still grieving the loss of his voice, his friendship and his expertise, we ask you not bring any of it here.
Sam Seder of Majority Report is one of us who misses Steve very much. For the next few days, he is hosting Steve's final appearance on The Majority Report (part 1, part 2) on September 13, 2006, so you may hear him talk about the situation in Iraq at that time. As with his writing, Steve is straightfoward and speaks with unexpected* depth. It isn't hard to see why Steve's NewsBlog became the go-to site when you wanted to know what was really happening.
Steve's family has set up a PayPal account on the NewsBlog site if you would like to help defray their expenses at this time.
