Milt Hinton was my teacher and mentor in Hunter College back in the late seventies and early eighties when he ran the jazz workshop there. What an incredible human being who was also a fantastic photographer up until his death in 2000.

He taught me the love of jazz when my influences were strictly rock and roll. He formed a college band through the workshop and often had us over to jam at his house on weekends. Milt also took us around to play at halfway houses and mental institutes or wherever he thought we were needed when he wasn't touring. His life was music and family and he passed that gift on to us at every turn---regardless of the venue, I dedicate this to you---Milt Hinton. Here's his website that celebrates his life. Please check it out.
