The first time I heard Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman sing "Time to Say Goodbye," I was in Hamburg and the head of our German company told me how he had this incredible song that was written for the last fight of Germany's most popular boxer-- who went on to lose the fight...
The record wasn't out yet, but I had an advance pressing. I brought it back and gave it to my A&R and Promotion guys. The verdict was unanimous: "this crap works in Europe but not in the Land of the Free and Home of..." Anyway, I thought they were all crazy and I was a guest D.J. on a radio station that was shutting down. It was the first time the song was played in America. I'd been a radio D.J. since the 60's and I've never had a bigger or better response to any song I've ever played. People were calling for 4 hours asking me to play it again. I hope you like it, too.
