A picture named Today-Newt-badnewsforrepublicans.jpgNewt: GOP at Biggest Crossroad since 1980

Gingrich appeared on the Today Show and had this to say about the problems facing the Republican Party.

Lauer: How divided is the party?

Newt: I think we're at the biggest crossroads as a party we've been at since Ronald Reagan was nominated in 1980, and I think the party has to change fairly dramatically...

Compare that to what Rush Limbaugh said in the WSJ from The Political Wire: Rush Limbaugh says the current GOP infighting over the Harriet Miers nomination "shows the strength of the conservative movement. This is no 'crackup.' It's a crackdown."

I'm no fan of the two, but it is further evidence that the party is deeply divided. George Bush has hijacked the conservatives with his "Clemenza" mentality and this is more evidence of that rift.
