Mayor Bloomberg, breaking with President George W. Bush and other Republicans, said today he opposes Senate confirmation of John Roberts to be the U.S.’s chief justice because the judge declined to detail his views on abortion rights. Bloomberg, who is running for re-election, said in a statement that while Roberts demonstrated a “deep intellect and understanding of the law” during Senate confirmation hearings, “I am unconvinced that Judge Roberts accepts the landmark Roe v.
