Laura Bush has gone on the offensive to deflect criticism from President Bush and said: the criticism of President George W Bush is "disgusting." Many people including democrats have been saying that Bush was in denial about the hurricane.

What does she think about Dick Cheney's remark:

"There are a lot of lessons we want to learn out of this process in terms of what works," Cheney said. "I think we are in fact on our way to getting on top of the whole Katrina exercise," he said, but added, "we've got a lot of work ahead of us obviously."

Now Katrina is an exercise.

Maybe Laura should read Newsweek's " How Bush Blew it."

"President Bush knew the storm and its consequences had been bad; but he didn't quite realize how bad. The reality, say several aides who did not wish to be quoted because it might displease the president, did not really sink in until Thursday night."...read on

The fact that the President was so oblivious to the events on the ground is utterly insane. Laura followed up her earlier remarks with this:

But Mrs Bush, who has been visiting schools taking in children evacuated from the stricken Gulf coast, also acknowledged that Katrina has exposed the rift between America's rich and poor. "It was a wake-up call to a lot of people that that's something we need to address," she said."
