The search for meaning Left I on the News
Tragedies often lead to a search for meaning, and the incident of the courtroom murders in Atlanta, followed by the incredible story of the brave young woman hostage, is no exception. At least some in the press have focused on the fact that she read to her captor from a Christian book called "The Purpose Driven Life: What on Earth Am I Here For?" We are told by one Christian bookstore owner: "People are looking for a purpose in their lives, and it helps show them that God has a specific design for them." In the book itself, the author writes, "The purpose of your life is greater than your own personal fulfillment...If you want to know why you were placed on this planet, you must begin with God. You were born by his purpose and for his purpose."
